‘GROW’ La Crosse celebrates milestone
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — La Crosse’s GROW program is celebrating a big milestone.
Staff members gave the 1,000th garden lesson today at State Road Elementary.
The school has the oldest GROW garden in La Crosse, where students have spent five years learning and growing plants.
For school staff, the gardens are a great way to teach students about the food they eat.
“And also there is research that shows that when kids are involved with garden activities, they are more likely to try new foods, especially with fresh fruits and vegetables,” said Curt Rees, Principal of State Road Elementary.
In the last year, there were nearly 6,000 GROW garden lessons in La Crosse.
