GROW Kids Cooking Challenge announces winners

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The GROW Kids Cooking Challenge announced its winners Thursday, recognizing Elli Gillitzer of La Crosse and Aiden Ravens of Hokah, Minn., for their culinary skills.

Gillitzer took the beginner category with her recipe for pizza kabobs. She used her fresh ingredients to make a pizza sauce dip for pizza kabobs that were loaded with fresh ingredients.

Ravens won the advanced category with Greek chicken kabobs, home fries, fresh salad and lemon sorbet. Judges were impressed by his ability to stretch the given ingredients into a four-part meal.

In an effort to offer a COVID safe way to give children a hands-on learning experience connecting with healthy food, the GROW team hosted a cooking challenge. The challenge was completed by fifty-two young chefs who picked up mystery ingredient bags at the GROW Greenhouse contact-free handout. Then participants had three days to create a healthy recipe using only the given ingredients plus up to five items from their own kitchen before submitting their results online.

The winners complete recipes, along with photos of their finished dishes, can be found on the GROW website, http://GROWLaCrosse.org/kids-cooking-challenge-entries/
