Groundbreaking marks start of new barrack at Fort McCoy

The Barracks is the second building of a planning eight building complex

FT. MCCOY, Wis. (WKBT) – Construction is underway at Fort McCoy on a new $18.8 million dollar barracks.

Military leaders broke ground on the project Thursday afternoon.

The new building is the second of an eight building complex.

When completed, it will house soldiers, while they are at Ft. McCoy for training.

“These facilities now are air conditioned. Have laundry facilities located adjacent to dining facilities. So it enhances quality of life,” said Ft. McCoy Garrison Commander Michael Poss.

Construction of the first building in the complex, another barracks, is expected to be completed later this year.

Four new barracks are planned.
