LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Great Rivers United Way has more than a million reasons to smile.

Since the start of 2022, the Great Rivers HUB has received a little more than $1 million from three grants.

That money will support growth of the HUB’s its Community Health Worker which serve as a bridge between health and social services in a community.

“Without community health workers, we have a big gap between accessing resources and improving quality of life,” said Great Rivers HUB director Lindsey Purl.

Staff at Saint Clare Health Mission, one of the care coordination agencies, say having Community Health Workers is important.

“You might find a community health worker helping someone take blood pressure. Helping them how to understand how to take their medication properly. But really also navigate housing and finding where food resources are in the community,” said St. Clare Health Mission executive director Jason Larson.
