Grants helping Onalaska teachers during tough budget times

ONALASKA, Wis.–   Budgets are tight for families, governments and schools.  But  some new grants will soon be allowing teachers in the  Onalaska School District to do things in their classrooms that might not otherwise be possible because of budget restraints.

The Onalaska Foundation held a ceremony Thursday to award this year’s ‘Innovative Teacher’ grant recipients.

This funding will cover everything from a new drum set, ipad apps and even to get a guest author to visit students.   “We want to benefit the educational system here, this is a great school system.  But budgets are bad and there’s a lot more we can do.  So our organization is trying to fill the gaps I guess.”

Grants totaled more than $6,000 this year.
