Governor Walker recognizes Xcel Energy for exceeding veteran hiring goals

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WKBT) — Xcel Energy received a ‘Certificate of Commendation’ from Governor Walker today, honoring the company’s commitment to hiring military veterans.

For three years, Xcel has exceeded a goal of having at least 10 percent of all new hires come from a military background, according to a news release.

Governor Walker also applauded the company for supporting veteran-owned businesses. In 2016, Xcel Energy spent $402 million with diverse suppliers, with a large portion going to more than 140 veteran entrepreneurs.

In addition, Xcel Energy has been recognized as Best for Vets employer by Military Times for the fourth year in a row and a Military Friendly Employer by G.I. Jobs magazine for the eighth consecutive year.
