G-E-T school district adding extra safety measures through the rest of the week

GALESVILLE, Wis. (WKBT) – Administration officials at the Galesville-Ettrick-Trempealeau School District assured families their schools have security measures in place, following the aftermath of a Texas mass shooting that killed 19 children and 2 teachers Tuesday.

“Like you, we are shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Texas on Tuesday,” District Administrator Michele Butler said, in a letter to families. “We share in the heartbreak that all are feeling for the families who have lost a loved one due to this senseless act of violence.”

With school safety on the mind, Butler said the district is working with local law enforcement to have an increased police presence around their school buildings through the rest of the week. She also encouraged students to make use of available counseling resources.

“We know that children and teens will process this news in different ways,” Butler added. “Counselors are available at each of our school buildings to assist students who may need some extra support. We strongly encourage any students to stop by the counseling office at any time.”
