Fundraising push hopes to ‘break the bank’ for Salvation Army

Area financial institutions are looking to “break the bank” this holiday season.

A total of 12 banks and credit unions in the La Crosse area are sponsoring an event this weekend to raise money for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign.

They’re starting it off by pledging $12,000 to kick off the final push for donations in the campaign, and their employees will be ringing bells at various red kettles in the area this Saturday.

The Salvation Army says seeing everyone work together embodies the spirit of the season.

“They are businesses, so they do compete for customers, but in this important time they come together and realize that they’re just trying to make a difference in their communities, and help those people in need in their communities,” said Nick Ragner.

To this point, the Salvation Army has raised 11 percent of its goal for this year’s campaign.

Bell-ringing runs through December 23rd, but donations are accepted until January 31st.
