FSC to open meditation path to public day before World Labyrinth Day
LA CROSSE (WKBT) – In anticipation of World Labyrinth Day May 7, the Franciscan Spirituality Center in La Crosse is inviting people to walk its indoor, canvas labyrinth the day before.
World Labyrinth Day is an annual event The Labyrinth Society founded in 2009 to occur on the first Saturday in May.
It is a “moving meditation for world peace and celebration of the labyrinth experience,” according to the society, which adds, “Many ‘Walk as One at 1’ local time to create a rolling wave of peaceful energy passing from one time zone to the next.”
The FSC, at 920 Market St., will open its labyrinth to the public from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 6.
The FSC labyrinth is designed in the pattern of the cathedral labyrinth in Chartres, France.
“This is a silent, self-guided practice suitable for older teens and adults,” the FSC says. “Plan on at least a half-hour, but you are welcome to spend as much time walking and reflecting on the experience as you like.”
Center staffers will provide a brief introduction to those who are new to the practice.
The FSC will accept free-will offerings from participants. Registration is appreciated, but not required, by 2 p.m. May 5.
Masks are optional at the FSC at this time.
