Freshman goalie Hanson a rising star for Onalaska hockey

Onalaska girls hockey is 10-4 so far and are coming off an Admiral’s Cup title. The co-op the last few years has always had strength up top, but now they have a rising star between the posts.

It’s Holmen freshman Diana Hanson, who is saving 94 percent of shots this season and is the latest Wisconsin Prep Hockey Player of the Week.

In three games the last week, she made 53 saves and allowed just three goals, with one shutout.

Hanson subbed into the job early this season and has won over her upperclassmen teammates.

“If a goal goes in, they help me, ‘it’s not your fault.’ They also include me in everything and don’t exclude me,” Hanson said.

“Diana’s one of those girls who, and I use the term affectionately, is a rink rat,” head coach Makr Thorn said. “She loves to be at the rink, and she’ll play whatever age group needs a goaltender.”

Onalaska next visits the Hayward co-op tomorrow at 3 p.m.
