Freedom Honor Flight announces 2016 flight schedule

The next round of Freedom Honor Flights are getting ready to take off.

The organization announced the details Tuesday of this year’s flights.

Every year, Freedom Honor Flight makes two trips to Washington D.C. to take veterans to see their war memorials.

The next Freedom Honor Flights will be on May 7th and September 17th.

It’s being called the ‘Sparta American Legion Post 100 Flight’ in honor of the legion that has donated more than $150,000 to the program since it was founded.

“These guys that have served overseas and been in battle, to watch them come back and see the look on their face when they return from their memorial, everything you do, you forget about,” said the co-chair of the Sparta Freedom Honor Flight Bill Bohn.

Organizers say those donations paid for about 300 veterans to go on the one-day trip.
