Fort McCoy welcomes new garrison commander

Fort McCoy is seeing some changes, as the base today gained a new commander.

Colonel Hui Chae Kim will begin his duties as Garrison Commander at the end of this week.

Kim replaces Colonel David J. Pinter, who joined Fort McCoy in 2016. For the outgoing commander, Fort McCoy was a welcome challenge.

“Once again, they didn’t know what it was like training in a cold weather environment, so that was probably the biggest challenge and embracing that. You know, when they say ‘it’s cold up there’ and it’s like yes it’s cold up here, what a great opportunity at a location such as Fort McCoy, Wisconsin,” said Pinter.

Officials hope to continue growth training exercises offered at the base that has been seen in recent years.
