Fort McCoy looking for USO volunteers as busy season begins

Summer is the busiest training season for training

Fort McCoy is in need of help from those outside the military.

Summer is the busiest training season for Fort McCoy as soldiers and their units make their way to the Midwest, which means they could use the help of volunteers.

The USO, or United Services Organization, on Fort McCoy is the only one in in the United States that serves troops in the field as they perfect their skills in a combat environment.

“One of our underlying mottos is to provide a touch of home to the soldiers here and away. I think we do that pretty easily with the Battleship and the guitars and, you know, the movie night and the Girl Scout Cookies. I mean, where else are you going to find Girl Scout Cookies?” said the State of Wisconsin USO Director of Operations Elizabeth Hazlett.

Volunteers requirements are:

Available evenings and weekends for 3 or 4 hour shifts
At least 18 years old
Able to pass a background check
Can lift and carry up to 20 pounds
Walk unassisted on uneven terrain
Have a valid email address and computer access

Military experience is not required. Anyone interested can apply at
