Former president of Onalaska Historical Society arrested
ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) — Onalaska police arrested a former president of the Onalaska Historical Society on Thursday for allegations of embezzlement of the organization’s funds.
Investigators said the individual, who has not been named at this time, removed a “substantial amount of money” from the Historical Society’s account for personal use.
Onalaska police said the investigation into allegations of embezzlement of Historical Society funds began when the organization’s newly elected treasurer audited the books after her election. Police said it became apparent that there were “serious irregularities” in the organization’s financial records.
The former president was later released on a signature bond. Police said referral of formal charges is currently pending.
