Former long-time Winona State basketball coach Mike Leaf dead at 58
WINONA, Minn. (WKBT) — Former long-time Winona State men’s basketball coach Mike Leaf has died.
He was 58 years old.
Leaf was with the Winona State basketball program for 28 years, 17 as head coach.
He led the team to two NCAA Division Two National Championships.
He resigned in 2015 after being accused of making unwanted sexual advances toward a player. However, no criminal charges were ever filed in the case.
His obituary reads, “Mike’s passion was coaching and teaching. His gift was bringing people together and bond, as a family or a team. Mike welcomed everyone in his path.”
Leaf’s funeral is set for Thursday at Fawcett Junker Funeral Home in Winona.
No word on a cause of death.
