‘Forest Scramble’ reopens at EcoPark

Closed earlier due to safety, insurance concerns

One of the area’s newest playscapes is open. Again.

La Crosse’s ‘Forest Scramble’ at the Myrick Hixon EcoPark closed earlier to fix some safety issues and address insurance concerns. “There’s additional netting along the bridge, there’s additional netting around the towers, we capped in the towers with the silo covers,” said Jean Chromey, executive director of the EcoPark.

Chromey says they had a soft opening for the tree-house style play area on Thursday, June 12. It’s open on Thursdays and Fridays from noon until 6 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. An attendant will be at the structure whenever it’s open.

“We’re very comfortable with what we have today,” says Chromey.

And so far, the kids are enjoying it. “It’s fun to play with,” says 5-year old Cooper Hill. “It’s really cool, I’ve been waiting a long time to see what’s inside,” says 10-year old Brynn Hundt. “It looks awesome,” says 10-year old Kennedi Hill.

Chromey says ‘Forest Scramble’ is about 1/3 of the full playscape plan.

A grand opening is schdeuled for Thursday July 3.
