Focus on Equality given lessons for students in Onalaska
ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) — The importance of equality is driving discussion with area high school students.
The School District of Onalaska’s Equality Committee and Onalaska High School’s Ujima put on a Focus on Equality event Wednesday morning.
Students attended presentations addressing racial tension, artistic expression of culture, gender and sexuality, along with political parties and civil discourse.
The lessons aren’t ones the students may be used to, but they know they are valuable.
“We have science, math, all that stuff, but these things are more about life, more about our community, and we don’t have that in a set classrooms,” said Nieyah Mallory, president, Onalaska Ujima Club.
Students from all grades at Onalaska High School attended Wednesday’s events.
