Flash mob breaks out in Valley View Mall to bring awareness to gender-based violence
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – People are getting their groove on for a cause.
A flash mob broke out into dance at Valley View Mall on Saturday.
It’s part of the La Crosse Area One Billion Rising event, which brings awareness to violence against women, and gender-based violence.
Members spread their message through song and dance.
According to the organization, worldwide 1 in 3 women will be beaten or sexually assaulted in her lifetime.
That adds up to one billion women and girls.
“Every February, we rise – in countries across the world – to show our local communities and the world what one billion looks like and shine a light on the rampant impunity and injustice that survivors most often face. We rise through dance to express joy and community and celebrate the fact that we have not been defeated by this violence. We rise to show we are determined to create a new kind of consciousness – one where violence will be resisted until it is unthinkable,” WWW.ONEBILLIONRISING.ORG
The global campaign launched in 2012.
