First leap year baby born at Gundersen Health System

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The first leap year baby in La Crosse was born Saturday morning at 12:23 a.m.

Merrick Lee Jackson was delivered at Gundersen Health System.

He’s seven pounds, 14 ounces, 20 inches long, and very healthy.

The lucky parents are Alex and Brett Jackson from Prairie du Chien.

Merrick has two older brothers who can’t wait to meet him.

Alex was 41 weeks and a day along, but she never thought she’d have a leap year baby.

“When someone brought up the thought of having a Leap Year baby, I thought, that will never happen, I will never be that late. So we tried to avoid it at first, but it became pretty clear that it was meant to happen,” Alex said.

All in all, they’re excited that Merrick was born with a very unique story.

Congratulations to the Jackson family!
