First episode of La Crosse’s Teen Press available to stream
Longfellow Middle School partners with Midwest Music Fest in new student-led series
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Students with the School District of La Crosse are trying their hand at journalism.
Midwest Music Fest is partnering with Longfellow Middle School for it’s premiere season of Teen Press.
8 students are part of the program and take charge in researching, coordinating, and interviewing different artists and bands.
The series brings a teenager’s perspective to reporting and aims to help students grow in character, respect and communication.
When Midwest Music Fest contacted the school to collaborate, ELA & Social Studies teacher Stephanie Hein said she jumped at the opportunity.
“What these students are doing is absolutely remarkable,” says Hein. “Anytime I can get kids to interact and take learning into the world I’m all in, and so I saw this as a great opportunity to participate in some community action.”
The first episode of Teen Press features an interview with Soren Staff from Them Coulee Boys.
You can view it on The School District of La Crosse’s Facebook page.
