ALERT DAY Monday
Accumulating Snow Moves In For Monday
Sunday’s High: 54°, Tonight’s Low: 32°, Last Updated: Sunday, December 29, 2019 at 5:55pm
Thanks to some bonus sunshine, La Crosse reached a new record high temperature for today! The high temp at the airport reached 54°F, breaking the previous record of 53°F set back in 1999.
Colder air is gradually starting to move into the Upper Midwest as the main area of low pressure tracks east. We could see a little drizzle/freezing drizzle overnight. Lows will be in the low 30s.
Monday is an ALERT DAY. We’ll begin tomorrow with the chance of freezing drizzle or a light wintry mix. During the late morning/early afternoon, snow will rotate in from the north/northeast and last into Monday evening and night. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in place for southeastern MN, northeastern IA, the I-90 corridor and south in Wisconsin. This is where snowfall totals will range from 1″ (south) to 5″ (I-90 corridor east of La Crosse). A WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect for those north of La Crosse- this is where the heaviest of the snow will fall. Winds will also be quite brisk for Monday and Monday night. West winds will be sustained from 10-20 mph with gusts as high as 30 mph possible.
Looking Ahead… We could see a few flurries early Tuesday morning, but then clouds will gradually decrease. Highs on New Year’s Eve (Tuesday) will be in the upper 20s.
Partly sunny for New Year’s Day on Wednesday with highs in the low to mid 30s.
The chance of rain/snow will return on Thursday and Friday with temperatures in the mid to upper 30s.
At this point, next weekend looks dry with high temps in the upper 20s to low 30s.
Have a great night and stay tuned for updates! –Michelle Poedel
