Firefighters prepare to climb 47 floors for good cause
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Firefighters from Campbell and Shelby fire departments are training for a good cause.
They’re participating in the Anthem Firefighter Challenge, which is organized by the American Lung Association and sponsored by Anthem.
On March 9, the firefighters will be climbing the stairways of the US Bank Center in Milwaukee as a part of the Fight For Air Climb.
The building has 47 floors and more than 1,000 steps.
The firefighters will be wearing their full gear, which weighs about 60 pounds.
Firefighters Jodi Kaseno, Mel Engen and Conner Knerzer of the Campbell Fire Department and Kerrie Salm from the Shelby Fire Department will participate in the climb.
Kaseno says, “Lung cancer is the number one killer of men and women in the United States, and is also a big contributor to lung cancer in firefighters. So I feel like, not only are we helping our own brothers and sisters in the fire service and first responders, but we’re helping other people in the nation too by getting education out there.”
From every dollar donated, 85 cents goes toward research and educational programs for those living with lung diseases.
