Fire that killed 2 Wauzeka sisters ruled accidental

The fire that killed two Wauzeka girls overnight Monday was accidental, officials said.

Trinity Bartels, 15, and her sister Lena, 12, died in the fire at their home on the 500 block of Main Street. They were the only people home at the time of the blaze, officials said.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Friday that the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Division of Criminal Investigation investigation found that the fire started in the center of the home near the staircase, which prevented escape from the upstairs.

CCSO said the investigators “cannot definitively state how or what started the fire but it is ruled as an accidental fire.”

A funeral for the girls is scheduled Saturday.
