Fire damages storage units south of downtown La Crosse

Cause of fire is under investigation

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – A quick response helped La Crosse firefighters deal with a fire at a cold storage building south of La Crosse’s downtown.

The La Crosse Fire Department was dispatched for a storage unit on fire a little before noon on Monday.

The fire at the corner of Fourth and Winnebago impacted about ten storage units.

Fire Crews arrived within 3 minutes and found heavy smoke coming from the Edwards Mini Storage on the corner of 4th and Winnebago Streets. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes of arrival and no injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.

“We’re very close and we had access and water on in a short amount of time,” said Jeff Schott, La Crosse Fire Department Battalion Chief.

Forced entry was needed to gain access and apply water to several storage units that were on fire.

The cause is under investigation.
