Final National Guard COVID-19 testing site in La Crosse County set for Saturday

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — The final Wisconsin National Guard COVID-19 testing site will be Saturday in West Salem, according to the La Crosse County Health Department.

The site will offer free PCR testing from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 1901 E. Church Road, without an appointment.

“Local healthcare is being stretched with care for increased numbers of hospitalized COVID patients, high demand for COVID testing appointments, and staff issues. WI National Guard ‘no appointment’ drive-through testing sites have greatly assisted our community with access to COVID testing for the past 22 months,” said the health department in a news release.

The testing site was previously hosted at the La Crosse County Highway Shop; however, that isn’t safe during the winter, according to county health educator Brenda Lutz Hanson.

“The Health Department looked for a site near the Highway Shop and approached Prince of Peace Church. They were pleased to pilot the location,” said Lutz Hanson.

Signage will direct those attending to the church parking lot with plenty of space to coordinate in-vehicle waiting. To participate in the WING COVID-19 testing on Saturday, please register at https://register.covidconnect.wi.gov/
