‘Fill the Food Shelf’ event collects food for northern Minnesota food shelves
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Fifth through 12th-grade kids in our area are preparing for the summer baseball season while at the same time helping a good cause.
On Sunday, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater La Crosse held the second annual Elite Baseball Academy infield and outfield skills camp and “Fill the Food Shelf” event. The “Fill the Food Shelf” camp had no fee but donations of non-perishable food items were accepted.
Donations in the past have raised thousands of pounds of food for northern Minnesota food shelves.
Organizers say it is important to use their platform for a good cause
“You get to a position where you’re able to do something to help people out. My ability is baseball and being able to teach it and the ability to be able to teach that while also helping kids and families out, I think, is huge,” said Colorado Rockies hitting coordinator Darin Everson.
The event took in 520 pounds of donated food Sunday.
