Efforts to reduce flooding impacts in La Crosse are continuing.

The city’s Board of Public Works received an update on the efforts in the city to reduce the impact of flooding.

Parts of the city are are in the flood plain below the Mississippi River, which can lead to flooding issues.

City staff are maintaining pumps and a temporary levee was constructed near Copeland Park.

“The staff has been doing a phenomenal job of making sure that the pumps are operational, moving that water and then as well with the levees to make sure that our temporary levees and other areas are still sound,” said La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat.

Permanent pumps will be installed in the city of La Crosse later this year.
