Fight about Aretha Franklin ends in shooting, witnesses say
An argument over who would play Aretha Franklin in a movie ended with a man critically injured in a shooting, WTKR-TV reported.
Suffolk police responded to a report of a gunshot victim around 10:45 a.m. Thursday.
According to 13 News Now, Michael Jermell Hatton, 44, and Tony Jonathan Lundy, 47, got into an argument. Police said Hatton shot Lundy at least once.
A WTKR reporter talked to a witness who said he heard the two people arguing in a barbershop over whether or not Halle Berry would play Franklin in a movie.
“They were talking about Halle Berry playing the part of Aretha Franklin in a movie, and that’s when I asked the question, ‘How is Aretha doing?'” witness Harvey Clark told 13 News Now. “And they said she died five minutes ago.”
Clark said Hatton and Lundy ended up fighting on the ground, and customers had to break it up.
Lundy left the barbershop and Hatton followed, Clark told News Channel 13.
Clark said Hatton shot Lundy from about 10 feet away on the sidewalk.
Police said Lundy was taken to a hospital and is considered to be in critical condition.
Hatton was arrested on several charges, including aggravated malicious wounding, shoot/cut/stab or wound in commission of a felony, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and discharge of a firearm in public with an injury.
