Light Snow For Some Today… Much Colder Tonight!

A bit breezy today and this evening

Tuesday’s Forecast High: 33F / Tonight’s Low: 7F – Last Updated Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 10:45 AM…

A weak trough caused passing clouds overnight with some flurries in spots, especially north and east of La Crosse. Expect sunshine to start this morning, then a cold front will track southeast across the region later today. The front will bring more passing clouds, along with a chance of light snow or flurries around midday into the early afternoon hours. Some spots could pick up a dusting to a 1/2″ of snow, which could cause slippery spots on area roads. It will be cooler today with highs in the mid-upper 20s (north) to the mid 30s (south). Westerly winds 10-20 mph, with gusts around 25 mph possible, will make it feel a bit colder.

Light Snow For Some Today

Mostly clear and much colder tonight. Lows will be in the 5-10F range for La Crosse and areas to the south that have little or no snow on the ground. It will be even colder to the north where more snow is on the ground, with lows in the single digits above and below zero. NW winds 5-15, gusts to 20-25 mph, could cause wind chills in the single digits below zero, perhaps teens below zero in northern parts of the viewing area.

We will likely start with some sunshine Wednesday, then clouds will increase through the day. Temps will be colder with highs in the teens (north) to the low-mid 20s (south). Winds will be lighter tomorrow (5-10 mph) from the north, then switch to the southeast later in the day.

Next 8 Days

A Look Ahead To The Next 8 Days

Looking Ahead… Warmer again Thursday as a system tracks northeast across the region and draws milder air up from the south. Expect highs in the low 40s, so any precip would fall as rain showers… but it could start as snow showers or a wintry mix early in the day.

Colder air will follow Thursday’s system, with highs back in the low-mid 20s Friday and Saturday. A weak disturbance could cause some light snow showers late Friday or Friday night. Saturday looks mainly dry with mostly to partly cloudy skies.

Another disturbance will bring a chance of light snow later Sunday into Monday. Highs will be in the upper 20s Sunday, then low-mid 30s Monday. Flurries will be possible Tuesday with colder highs in the low-mid 20s. Another chance of snow could impact the region around the middle of next week, with colder highs Wednesday in the upper teens to around 20F.

Have a great Tuesday! -Bill Graul
