Festgoers tap the Golden Keg for Oktoberfest’s 60th year
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Festgoers tapped the Golden Keg at the downtown Oktoberfest Grounds in La Crosse Friday.
The opening ceremony introduced this year’s Royal Family, including festmaster Tom Tiggelaar and frau Merilyn. The ceremony was followed by the famous Golden Keg tapping.
Oktoberfest also live-streamed the Tapping of the Golden Keg this year to give those a chance at home to spread gemutlichkeit virtually.
Oktoberfest president Kelly Wilde says he believes folks at the grounds will fest safely and responsibly this year.
“I think there comes to a point when we realize that the safety of our neighbors is responsible for all of us to do,” Wilde said.
Wilde says Oktoberfest has made extra room at the grounds so people can fest in a more distant fashion.
Oktoberfest encourages those who feel ill to stay home this year.
The 60th celebration of La Crosse’s biggest event continues Friday with the Lederhosen Games in the Heritage Tent going from 2 to 4 p.m.
