Federal Perkins Loan Program expired Wednesday
The loan program helped more than 16,000 UW students and awarded $28 million in 2013-14
MADISON, Wis. (WKBT) — The Federal Perkins Loan Program expired Wednesday leaving students with a major loss.
The loan program worked to make higher education more affordable for nearly 16,000 UW System students in 2013-14.
“The Perkins program had a long and successful track record in making higher education both more accessible and affordable for so many students with financial need,” says President of the UW System Ray Cross.
More than $28 million were awarded to students in need in 2013-14.
Cross says the UW System will continue to work to find an alternative avenue to maintain the program.
