FDA: Those allergic to peanuts should avoid cumin

Protein found in cumin

The Food and Drug Administration is telling those with a peanut allergy to consider avoiding foods with ground cumin.

FDA said some shipments of ground cumin products have tested positive for a peanut protein that might affect those who are highly allergic or sensitive to peanuts.

Ground cumin may be sold as a spice, in a spice mix or kit, or as a minor ingredient when used in finished food products like soups and chilis.

Products made before 2014 are unlikely to contain the affected cumin.
