FDA approves at-home COVID-19 tests

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The FDA has authorized a new at-home COVID-19 test.
The test is authorized for individuals two years of age and older, including people not showing symptoms. It’s an antigen, self swab test.
Although results come quickly, one local health expert says the results may not be completely reliable.

“Our recommendations are that if you do decide to use an antigen based test at-home kit, if it comes back positive, to quarantine until you can get a follow up test,” said Megan Meller, infection preventionist, GHS.

Although the test isn’t available in La Crosse yet, Meller hopes it will be soon.
She says proactive testing, like the At-Home test, can help get the pandemic under control.
