Fast start for La Crescent boys cross country
LA CRESCENT, Minn. (WKBT) — La Crescent Lancers boys cross country already has team victories at a 21 team invite at Stewartville and at the Crazy Buffalo Invitational they hosted last week. The team graduated no seniors off a squad that placed sixth at state in 2015.
“Really, really looking strong. This is probably the strongest our team has ever looked. And we all want a great state finish,” said La Crescent junior Matt Steiger.
Head coach Mark Abraham loves how this season’s team is composed. It has depth with nine strong runners. And it has top tier talent with Steiger and last season’s individual state champion Zack Emery.
“It’s a real blessing to have two outstanding runners at the same time because ordinarily if you have one it’s tough for them in training because they have nobody to train with,” said Abraham.
“Those two are stride for stride everyday in training and just that friendly rivalry keeps them going and they hit their goal times a little bit better when they’ve got somebody out there to talk to and work with everyday.”
