Fallen officers honored at memorial service in Winona
WINONA, Minn. (WKBT) — The sacrifices of law enforcement are being recognized in Winona County.
106 officers were killed in the line of duty in the United States in 2018, according to the FBI.
Three law enforcement officers have died in Winona County since 1874, most recently in the year 2000.
Law enforcement from around the county and members of the Minnesota State Patrol gathered for the ceremony.
“We remember them all the time in stuff we’re doing. When you’re out on the street, stuff comes to mind, we want to make sure that the families know that we don’t forget and that we remember their loved ones,” said Ben Klinger, Emergency Management Director, Winona County.
A National Memorial Service was also held in Washington D.C. as well.
