Fall colors to peak in just a few weeks
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The days are growing shorter and the weather is cooling down, but there is something many look forward to each Autumn, the fall colors.
When the leaves will start turning and which ones will have the brightest colors is up to Mother Nature.
But there are a few things that might give you an idea of what to expect this fall.
As daylight hours and weather conditions change trees start producing less chlorophyll, which causes the leaves to change color.
Severe weather can delay or impact the season’s color,
Different trees produce a range of colors.
In Wisconsin, oaks usually turn red or brown, birch leaves become bright yellow, and maple trees have a mix of orange, red, and yellow.
According to Wisconsin’s Fall Color Report it’s estimated that the fall colors in the La Crosse area will peak during the second week of October.
