Fairleigh Dickinson, Belmont win First Four games

Fairleigh Dickinson beat Prairie View 82-76 to open play in the First Four in Dayton, Ohio, Tuesday night, punching their ticket to face No. 1 seed Gonzaga in the first round Thursday.

Senior guard Darnell Edge led the Knights with 33 points in the battle of No. 16 seeds. Sophomore guard Jahlil Jenkins added 22 points in the victory, while senior forward Mike Holloway Jr. (10 points, 14 rebounds) and junior forward Kaleb Bishop (10 points, 11 rebounds) had double-doubles

Senior guard Gary Blackston led the Panthers with 26 points in the losing effort.

In the night’s second game, Belmont beat Temple 81-70 in a matchup of No. 11 seeds. The Bruins will now face No. 6 Maryland on Thursday in Jacksonville, Florida.

Senior guard Kevin McClain led Belmont with 29 points in the win, with freshman center Nick Muszynski adding 16 points. Senior guard Shizz Alston Jr. scored 21 points for Temple in the loss, with sophomore guard Nate Pierre-Louis contributing a double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The second half of the First Four will take place in Dayton on Wednesday, with No. 16 North Dakota State facing No. 16 North Carolina Central and No. 11 Arizona State facing No. 11 St. John’s.

The ND State/NC Central winner will face No. 1 overall seed Duke in the first round on Friday, while the Arizona State/St. John’s winner will get No. 6 Buffalo.
