Fairfield Inn closer to breaking ground

Hotel would be built at edge of La Crosse's downtown

La Crosse has many new hotel projects in the works, and one more is closer to breaking ground.

The Fairfield Inn will be built at the base of the Cass Street Bridge on 3rd Street.

The architecture of the 92-room, four-story hotel was a point of contention between the city and the hotel. The Fairfield Inn is known for a distinctive look that the city felt didn’t fit in with the rest of the buildings downtown.

After some discussion, the two sides were able to come to an agreement.

“I think we were able to get a lot of it the parts we wanted in terms of the city to fit in with our downtown,” said La Crosse Senior Planner Tim Acklin. “We were never against having a hotel there, I think it’s going to be great for the downtown.”

Construction on the new hotel is expected to begin by late June or early July.
