Facebook feud, rant leads to shooting in La Crosse

Four people in custody

Four people are in custody following a shooting Monday afternoon in La Crosse.

Police were called around 4:43 p.m. to area of 1008 State St. for a report of a shooting.

Police quickly gathered information that two vehicles had sped away from the area and that Ramon Washington and Devon Yang were the possible suspects.

Police also determined that Monica Thompson was the target of the shooting, however no one was hit by the gunfire. Thompson also left the area before police arrived.

At around 5:00 p.m., officers located the suspect vehicles at 1300 Market St. Officers were able to take three people into custody: 19-year-old Devon Yang of La Crosse, 19-year-old Steve Austin Brock of La Crosse, and 18-year-old Ramon TL Washington of La Crosse. However, the fourth suspect ran from the scene.

A short time later, police were able to track down the fourth suspect, 20-year-old Johnathan Berlanga of La Crosse, in the area of 1200 Johnson St.

During the arrest, police seized two handguns, 57.3 grams of marijuana, $862 in cash, illegally possessed prescription drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Police say their investigation shows the shooting was the result of an ongoing Facebook feud and rant posted by Monica Thompson that was directed at the suspects.

The suspects are facing charges for the following.

PREVIOUS STORY:

For the second time in less than a week, La Crosse Police are investigating a shooting.

Police say it happened in the area of 10th and State Streets in La Crosse.

Traffic was blocked off Monday afternoon while officers investigated outside of an apartment building in the area.

Police say nobody was hit in the shooting and several people are in custody, but they have no other information at this time.

The incident is still under investigation.
