Exotic pet surrender event in La Crosse aims to help people and animals

La Crosse Exotic Animal Surrender Event

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — An event next month in La Crosse aims to help people and the pets they can no longer care for.

People are invited to bring exotic pets they can’t care for to the Habitattitude Exotic Pet Surrender Event from noon to 3 p.m. May 15 at Hampton Inn & Suites La Crosse Downtown at 511 Third St. N.

The event — hosted by J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue, River Alliance of Wisconsin, North American Invasive Species Management Association and University of Wisconsin Sea Grant/Water Resources Institutes — aims to prevent pet owners overwhelmed by caring for an exotic pet from releasing the animal in the wild. Releasing a pet is harmful for the animal and environment.

This event brings together a collection of area rehoming partners that provide responsible alternatives to release for exotic pet owners who are no longer able to care for their pets.
Organizations will be accepting fish, invertebrates, reptiles, pet birds, small mammals, and plants –no questions asked.
