Event highlights challenges of child welfare in La Crosse County
League of Women Voters, January Lunch and Learn
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Child Protective Services in La Crosse County shared their biggest struggles with the community on Tuesday.
January’s Lunch and Learn event with the League of Women Voters was all about the challenges of child welfare.
The Director of Human Services in La Crosse, Jason Witt, and Representative Steve Doyle were the event’s featured speakers.
They discussed stressors in our community, like drugs and alcohol that negatively impact children, and how people can help.
“Whether it’s helping out with meals, whether it’s helping with family coaching, transportation, and other needs, there’s ways that the community can be involved and help children in need,” said Witt.
According to Witt, La Crosse County is about 40 foster homes short of what they need. A big way to help children in our area is to become a foster parent.
