Eric Koula appealing homicide conviction
Koula found guilty of killing her parents in 2012
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The West Salem man serving two life sentences for killing his parents lays out his appeal for his conviction.
Eric Koula was found guilty by a jury in 2012 of shooting his parents Dennis and Merna then cashing a $50,000 check from their account.
On Wednesday, Koula and his new attorneys filed their case with the state court of appeals, explaining why they believe Koula should get a new trial.
The arguments include Koula’s former lawyers allowing faulty jury instructions and the judge improperly excluding evidence that supported his innocent.
A similar appeal was denied at the circuit court level earlier this year.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice will respond to the appeal then the court will make a decision.
