Enter the International Owl Contest

HOUSTON, Minn. (WKBT) – If you’ve always wanted to design something and looking to tackle a project that will require a lot of creativity, we’ve got just the thing.

Whether you’re an architect, designer, a student or owl enthusiast, you can weigh in on this unique project.

The International Owl Center in Houston, Minnesota is building a new facility, and they’re looking for creative ideas to solve some unique challenges they face.

“Screening large aviaries for insects, and then dealing with a heavy snow load, that’s a unique challenge that no ones dealt with before.”, says Karla Bloem, Executive Director of the International Owl Center.

Another unique problem to consider; how can people walk in and out of these aviaries without letting in insects?

The new center will encompass a total of 5 acres, along with large aviaries and a main building to host programs for up to 200 people.

The contest is open to anyone with a good idea, even those internationally. Organizers are also offering a prize, worth up to $5,000.

Registration ends October 31st, you can find more information on their website.
