Enrollment down about 1% at UWL
Nationally, university enrollment is down nearly two percent
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Enrollment is down about about 1% at UW-La Crosse.
This year, 10,468 people are enrolled at the university.
That is down 112 students from last fall.
And the number of first year students is smaller at UWL this year, down 80 from last year’s record high of 2,194.
The news comes as students are back on campus for some classes at the university.
Chancellor Joe Gow says the university remains in a strong position for student and the community.
“There are about 1,500 hundred people that work here. And so we want to make sure that their careers keep going and the University keep moving. And so it’s great that we do have strong enrollment, so that people can keep their jobs and we don’t have layoffs or furloughs,” said UW-La Crosse Chancellor Joe Gow.
Nationwide, college enrollment is down nearly 2 percent from last year.
That’s according to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center.
