Energy assistance available for people in need during winter months
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Energy assistance is still available for people in our area.
The Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program provides help for heating and electric costs.
Money comes in the form of a one-time payment.
Help is also provided for crisis situations, like shut off notices or if a furnace stops working.
While temperatures are still low, the need is still high.
“If you’re under the income limits and you meet the other qualifications, you’re going to be eligible for it, so we’d prefer people to apply for this program as opposed to not eat or don’t buy a prescription that they need,” said Tom Miller, Supervisor of the Western Region for economic Assistance Consortium in Wisconsin.
La Crosse County residents are asked to call (608) 784-HELP to apply for assistance.
Wisconsin residents in others counties can get details on applying at homeenergyplus.wi.gov.
