Empty campuses could impact La Crosse census results

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)– COVID-19 may have an impact over how much funding La Crosse County can receive if it interferes with the National Census.

The coronavirus kept census workers inside, as they’re urging the public to take the census online.

Taking it online takes about 10 minutes, but they’re concerned that some in the county are incorrectly responding, as college students have left campus due to the outbreak.

“The students should be counted where their school address is and where they’re enrolled in school at that time. So they should be counted here so we’re concerned how that may affect that population count,” said Senior Planner for the City of La Crosse Tim Acklin.

In addition to an online response, residents can report over the phone, and by mail.
