Effort to create new Onalaska Legion Youth Park playground pays off

A dedication ceremony was held Saturday for the Onalaska Legion Youth Park near the Legion Baseball Field.

The Sons of the American Legion Post 336 has been working since fall 2007 to have new playground equipment that’s handicapped friendly.

Kids and families were encouraged to try out the park’s new swings, slides and climbing equipment.

“Play actually helps generate us every single day. So, if we’re not playing, what are we doing? We need to make sure they we’re actually enjoying life also, and that’s what children do: is actually help us enjoy life,” said Jean Lunde, who helped dedicate the park.

The park also has new sidewalks to make it easier to get to.

The Sons of the American Legion said they are “humbled by the generosity of the many donors who stepped forward to make this a reality.”
