Luncheon an annual event of the La Crosse Public Education Foundation

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – An annual event in La Crosse is honoring local educators.

The La Crosse Public Education Foundation’s annual Grants Award Luncheon honors nearly 70 recipients of grants worth more than $86,000.

Also during the event, Darryle Clott, a longtime area educator and 2019 Mrs. Oktoberfest, talked about how teachers inspire.

The event included a salute to former School District of La Crosse superintendent Dick Swantz.

Swantz who died this past October.

New this year, the LPEF’s annual Leadership Award now honors Swantz.

Swantz’s son says honoring teachers is an important piece of the long-time educator’s history.

“My father was all about teaching, hence that’s why I entered the profession. And he felt very dearly that teachers were not recognized enough for some of the work that they did, and that’s why he started this,” said Dick Swantz’s son Tony Swantz.

News 8 Now’s Jennifer Livingston served as the event’s emcee.
