Edible schoolyard coming to Hamilton Elementary in La Crosse
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Children in La Crosse have another chance to grow at school.
A 3-D edible schoolyard design was revealed for Hamilton Elementary Thursday morning.
The addition to the front of the school will include plants that provide fruits and vegetables.
The new space provides educational opportunities that could benefit them for a life time.
The hope is for students to realize how much food can be produced in our area.
“If we can show them what elderberries look like, how to harvest them and how to use them in different ways, that’s going to be huge in them knowing how to be self-efficient,” said GROW executive director Jamie O’Neill.
The garden is expected to be completed in August of this year.
