Eau Claire man arrested in Thanksgiving stabbing
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WKBT) — An Eau Claire man was charged with two felonies Monday after he was accused of stabbing another man in the chest on Thanksgiving.
Kelly B. Weiberg, 51, was charged in Eau Claire County Circuit Court with aggravated battery using a dangerous weapon and second-degree recklessly endangering safety using a dangerous weapon, both as a repeat offender.
According to the Eau Claire Police Department, officers were called at about 1:08 a.m. Thursday to 641 Franklin St. They arrived to find a witness in the backyard covered in blood and screaming for officers to help a man lying unresponsive on the lawn.
Police provided critical aid to the man, who had a stab wound to his chest, placing a seal to prevent air from being sucked into the chest cavity.
The witness told officers Weiberg had stabbed the other man and Weiberg was inside the residence, according to police. Officers ordered Weiberg outside and he complied, but police say Weiberg refused to show his hands and surrender to be taken into custody.
Police used a less-lethal sponge round to gain control of Weiberg, according to authorities.
Investigators say Weiberg had gotten into a fight with the other man and the man hit Weiberg in the face. In response, Weiberg stabbed him. Weiberg told police he was intoxicated at the time.
